Questions to ask any roofer
- Are you registered where required? Kansas requires roofing contractors to register with the state Attorney General, and many cities on both sides of the line have their own licensing or permits. Ask for the numbers.
- Can you show proof of general liability and workers' compensation insurance?
- Who will be on the roof, your crew or subcontractors?
- What manufacturer warranty applies, and what workmanship warranty do you give?
- Will you pull the permit, and who handles inspection?
- How will you protect landscaping and clean up nails?
Get it in writing
A written agreement should list the shingle brand and line, underlayment, flashing and vent work, decking replacement terms, start date, cleanup and warranty. Vague paperwork is how disputes start.

- Large payment demanded before materials arrive
- No physical presence in the metro and no references
- Offers to waive your insurance deductible

Do roofers need a license in Missouri or Kansas?
Missouri has no statewide roofing license. Kansas requires roofing contractors to register with the Kansas Attorney General. Many cities in the metro add their own licensing and permit rules.
